| Fleming Jenkins Sponsors Skating Shows | |
| Weâre proud to announce that Fleming Jenkins will provide sponsorship for eight skating shows to be televised on NBC Sports this fall and early next year. Peggy will be the on-air host for four of the shows and our winery logo will be visible along the edge of the ice at every event. | Harvest Season Has Officially Begun | |
|
Harvest arrived earlier this season. Last year, we started harvesting our estate Chardonnay vineyard on September 28th, but this year
we picked the upper half of the vineyard on September 10th - two and a half weeks earlier. We harvested the remaining section of the vineyard
only nine days later. Even though our vineyard is just one acre in size, we take the extra effort of harvesting it in two passes to
make sure that all of the fruit is of optimal ripeness. Our overall tonnage on the vineyard was 4.15 tons, which is nearly one ton
more than 2007. This is good news for everyone because it means we will produce more of our 2008 Jenkins Vineyard Chardonnay than with
previous vintages!
But now, we are back to ãhurry up and waitä. The weather has cooled down substantially now, which has slowed down the ripening process of all of our remaining grapes across Northern California. This is good in that it allows the overall flavors of the grapes to continue to mature, and it keeps us on our toes to choose the best harvest date for each vineyard. Our friend, Winegrower Will Nord, gave us a great analogy to describe the difficulty with forecasting harvest dates earlier in the growing season, ãIt is kind of like predicting the score of a baseball game when it is only the 5th inning.ä We are hoping that the weather continues to cooperate so that all of our upcoming harvests deliver ripe, flavorful grapes to the crushpad. |
